Society of Maintenance and Overhaul of Propeller, inc.
Aerohelice – Propeller Maintenance and Overhaul Society Lda – was established in February 1981. Delivering a professional, competent and qualified work, the recognition by the market has inevitably grown. As the clients list grew, we had to move twice in a short period, for a more spacious workshop. Solicitations are now from many diverse countries, proving the highly professional work developed at Aerohelice Lda. As before, our high quality requirements and dedication criteria are the same. The rigor starts with our employees and their training, as we will not give up our reliability and credibility.
Aerohelice positions itself at a high level because we are exigent and responsible. The continuous technical update and refining techniques, in cooperation with parts and components manufacturers, are patent in various different certificates, and EASA Part 145 and ISO 9001:2000 approvals.
Hartzell Propeller Inc. - Certificate of Approval:
Aerohélice is the sole portuguese private entity accredited to develop this activity. It is natural that we frequently take on joint projects with other entities. Besides investigation works with ISQ (Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade) and with IST (Instituto Superior Técnico), we also have a cooperation protocol with NDT – Consulting and Services for technical advice. Partnerships play a fundamental role as they contribute to share knowledge and to define more comprehensive and specialized methodologies relating to strategic cooperation.
As the company assumes a posture and a compromise of rigor an competence, we have to ally with internationally renowned manufacturers, whith unquestionable technological reliability.
Nondestructive Inspection Methods (NDI) are part of the special monitoring processes. These are performed by qualified technicians, and include several techniques which are selected depending on expected damage nature, possible localizations, needed sensitivity, and material properties, among other factors.

Applies to virtually all structural materials, with the exception of porous, limited to the detection of surface defects. The Liquid penetrant inspection is used to detect small cracks or discontinuities by the use of colored or fluorescent solutions with high detection sensitivity.
Its application is limited to ferromag-néticos.O materials method uses as a means of detecting fine ferrous particles that are attracted to the magnetic field leakage produced in the component at the time of its magnetization, thus enabling visualize the presence of descontinuidades. As magnetic particles are coated with a colored pigment, selected to allow a good contrast with the color of the part in inspection.
This method allows the detection of surface defects in electrically conductive materials. The sensitivity of the method and the depth of detection of defects can be adjusted. The application is generally limited to small areas where extension critical damage may occur.
Consists in propagating and receiving an acoustic wave. The echo resulting from this spread contains the necessary information to detect and locate a possible discontinuity present in the component. Applicable to all structural materials, the method allows the detection, location and sizing of defects. Provides high sensitivity to surface defects as well subsurface.
The radiograph is used to detect damage in areas of difficult access or inaccessible to other NDT methods Is based on the properties of penetration of X-rays and Gamma in materials opaque to visible light. The presence of discontinuities causes a difference in absorption of radiation from the exposed surface of which a sensitive film is recorded.
